Where to Stay Near Ban Krut: Areas and Stay Types

Published · Last checked · Independent guide, no bookings

Where you sleep shapes your trip to this coast more than anything else. Ban Krut, Bang Saphan Yai, Prachuap Khiri Khan town and Hua Hin each give you a very different holiday. This hub helps you pick a base and a type of stay. For a closer look at the Ban Krut and Bang Saphan beach areas, see our detailed where-to-stay guide. We are an independent guide, not a hotel. We take no bookings and do not recommend any single property.

Pick your base

Choose Ban Krut for a long, quiet beach with a railway station in the village. Choose Bang Saphan Yai for simple beach huts and easy boat trips to Koh Thalu. Choose Prachuap Khiri Khan town for a small, walkable seaside town with more places to eat. Choose Hua Hin for the widest choice of rooms, food and nightlife, and accept that it is about 148 km north of Ban Krut by rail.

Ban Krut and the bays to the south

Most stays in Ban Krut line the beach road. They are mostly small beachfront resorts, often air-conditioned bungalows in coconut gardens, plus guesthouses. Places stay small-scale; there is no strip of big chain hotels. Further south, Mae Ramphueng Bay and Bo Thong Lang Bay are calmer still. Our Ban Krut and Bang Saphan stay guide compares these areas in detail.

Bang Saphan Yai and Koh Thalu

Bang Saphan Yai is a fishing village with a railway station. Bamboo bungalows dot its beachfront, alongside some resorts and villas. Suan Luang beach, just south of the village, is popular for kayaking and paddleboarding. Offshore, Koh Thalu is private land, so check access and island stays directly before you plan a night there.

Prachuap Khiri Khan town

Prachuap is a small, laid-back town about 100 km south of Hua Hin and more popular with Thai holidaymakers than with foreign visitors. Budget guesthouses, family-run homestays and simple hotels cluster in the centre near the station. Small hotels sit along the beach road and bay, and apartments for short or long stays are found in quieter lanes. It suits travellers who want a town base for day trips to Ao Manao and Wa Ko.

Hua Hin

Hua Hin is the province's biggest beach town and has the widest range of rooms, from budget guesthouses and hostels to mid-range and upscale hotels. Some visitors rent a house for a long stay. It makes a good first or last night if you arrive from Bangkok or want city comforts before a quieter stay further south.

Camping and simple stays

If you travel light, the headquarters of the planned Ao Siam National Park, in the former Pa Klang Ao forest park, has a shaded camping area. A Thai news report says the park is still being set up and has few facilities, so check the current rules with the Department of National Parks before you go.
